Oyáte Studio X Farm Aid
Oyáte Studios’ very first commission done for Farm Aid and It truly was an honor being able to get an opportunity like this. At the time we were starting out with getting more opportunities to get Oyate Studio out there and being discovered. The fellow artisans and volunteers helped so greatly with this project. We as a studio have so many people to thank and appreciate as this was a huge stepping stone in our process of arising as a studio. This project was a huge push into achieving more and having more motivation to reach for more!
Over the course of 13 days the studio pushed out our very first large order of about 200 bracelets. We worked with 17 winyan and two-spirit persons whose hands came together to set the momentum of coming studio projects we are honored to have created this evergreen hand stitched leather bracelet for @farmaid 2024 🤎
This saddle tan leather is sourced from regeneratively raised livestock. Our partner on this project, Other Half Processing (OHP) buys and sells traceable hides, whose mission is to create high value and high quality products in ways that are ethical and respectful to the animal.
During a time not too long ago, here on the Great Plains, absolutely all parts of the animal were utilized. The horns, hooves, fur, teeth, liver, tongue, brain, everything. When times were difficult, even hides could be scraped, and the chips boiled and eaten. OHP’s values align with the values of the Lakota People which is why we were so happy to take on this commission for @farmaid 🤎 #farmaid
